Circa 1939 - 1943: By the end of the 30s Fiestaware had become quikly embraced by the American family. The fun, colorful dishware had begun to be mixed and matched across the country. To keep sales moving, Homer Laughlin launced a promotional campaign that would bring us such fine items as the Figure 8 tray, sugar and creamer set, the Stick Handled French Casserole, ant the 7 piece Fiesta Juice Ensemble. The juice set was in all likelihood the impetus for many of the fantastic new pieces designed for the Fiestaware line. The juice pitcher was modeled a year before along with a variety of sized pitchers of which the water pitcher was the original choice. Luckily the smallest of those original designs was resurrected for the 7 piece Juice Set. The juice tumbler as well was a piece that pottery designer Frederick Rhead had been laboring over for years. Over 20 models were produced looking for the perfect "cheese jar". What we now know as the fiesta juice tumbler was originally a custom design for Kraft to hold their chesse spreads. 200,000 cheese cups were produced in two sizes. Kraft again asked for a new model, but after lengthy trials and an approved canidate, the new cheese jar was not produced. Hazel Atlas Glass Company instead produced Fiesta colored glasses at half the price. The revised cheese jar was shelved for eight months until March of 1939. The 5-oz. tumbler was dipped in all six of the Fiesta colors, paired with the 30-oz. disc jug, and the 7-Piece Fiesta Juice Set was born.
This 7-piece juice set is in excellent condition with no damage. Juice pitcher is marked in the mold with the impressed fiesta mark. Cups are unmarked with smooth dry wiped feet. Cups would have been hand jiggered, leaving room for variation among the concentric rings. Please note small glaze flaw on the turquoise tumbler, but all pieces are in wonderful shape with good glazes and no apparent use.
