Southwestern frenzy, trips to Tiawana, the romanticism of travel to Mexico found its way into the hearts of the American people and onto the sides of our tableware. The 30s and 40s were a time of exuberant optimism and the designs of Frederick Rhead's pottery, coming out of Newell West Virginia couldn't be more representative of the era.

Circa 1934: Before the dawn of the Fiesta pottery line, Homer Laughlin Company was busy producing their Century shape dinnerware dipped in the creamy ivory vellum glaze. Usually decorated with floral decals, it is extremely rare to find this early and fragile pottery decorated in the triple red stripes. To find the century plates with the three graduated bands of red stripes is nearly impossible.
