Vintage Mexicana, Hacienda, Conchita and other Homer Laughlin Decalware Pottery | Circa: 1936-1944

Southwestern frenzy, trips to Tiawana and the romanticism of travel to Mexico found its way into the hearts of the American people and onto the sides of our tableware. The 30s and 40s were a time of exuberant optimism and the designs of Frederick Rhead's pottery, coming out of Newell West Virginia couldn't be more representative of the era.

Circa 1933-1944: The Mexicana Decal found itself onto a variety of shapes and patterns at Homer Laughlin, most commonly the Century and Kitchen Kraft shapes. Only a few pieces of Daisy Chain are found with decals, so it's a treat to find this great pie plate with the embossed bottom and bold Mexicana decal on top. Marked in the glaze stamp "HL Oven Serve MADE IN U.S.A.". Please not a few spots on the rim from use, typical on this type of ovenware, especially cuased from glaze irregularities like sand pops that let the glaze get penetrated - still no chips or dings and the decal is bright and the stripe is bold and undamaged, so a nice piece of Mexicana on a more unusual shape.

Conchita Decalware Kitchen Kraft Large Mixing Bowl with Red Stripe  »

Circa 1937-1944: Kitchen Kraft was introduced by Homer Laughlin Pottery Company in 1937. Originally designed to compliment the OvenServe line that had been in production since 1933. The earliest versions of kitchen kraft were produced only in ivory, with decals, and stamped with the "Kitchen Kraft OvenServe" backstamp. This Conchita version of the large Kitchen Kraft Mixing bowl is in good shape without any nics, chips, repairs or touch-ups. Please note a couple small spots of staining on the inside bottom of the bowl (typical when either a sand bump or pop creates a break in the glaze that allows for staining over time). Otherwise this bowl is in nice conditon with crisp decals and a great red stipe. Measures 10 1/2" w x 6" h.

Usually decorated with floral decals, it is extremely rare to find this early and fragile pottery decorated in the triple red stripes. To find the century cup and saucer set with the three graduated bands of red stripes is nearly impossible.

Conchita Mexican Themed Fiesta Homer Laughlin Kitchen Kraft Nesting Bowl Set

Set of Three Conchita Kitchen Kraft Nesting Bowls with Red Stripes »

Circa 1938-1941: Collectors of vintage Homer Laughlin pottery, and especially the Fiesta and Kitchen Kraft lines will rejoice upon adding the Conchita decalware into the mix. The decals applied on the vellum ivory glaze mix together the red, yellow, green and cobalt colors, or daringly enhance the medium green collection. This example of the 6, 8 , and 10 inch Kitchen Kraft bowls with the Conchita decal set are in excellent condition and are without chips, cracks, or repairs. The decals remain bright and in tact and the lovely hand painted red stripe along each bowls rim completes the set. Conchita decals consist of a large bulbous yellow pot, a snake plant and a blooming cactus on one side, followed by a cluster of bright fruit on the other. Marked on the bottom "HLC Kitchen Kraft Oven Serve Made in USA".
